Stinky Salad

Our Toastmaster's Christmas Party is coming up in a week and at our last meeting we were asked to sign up to bring a food item.  I am electing to bring an old family favorite that I haven't had in a while: Stinky Salad.

Maybe I should have made up a new name before writing it down because several less-than-savory comments were made as the sign-in sheet was passed around.

For all I know it has a different name, but growing up we always called it "Stinky Salad" because it is a little fragrant.....fragrant and delicious.  It doesn't keep well at all, so it isn't something put together for casual consumption.

Stinky Salad
1 Head each leaf & bibb lettuce
1 Large Red Sweet Onion
1# Swiss Cheese
1/2# Bacon
1C Mayonnaise
1T Sugar

Tear lettuce and mix in bowl.  Thinly slice onion and layer on top of lettuce.  Sprinkle sugar on top of sliced onion.  Julienne cheese and layer.  Cut bacon into cubes before cooking and draining it.  Layer over the salad.  Just before serving toss salad with the mayonnaise.
