Shave Like a Man

I know lately I've been posting infrequently and pretty much just funny videos. I started a new job in January that had an interesting training schedule and in the last three weeks alone I've had three different shifts.

Things are starting to settle some though, so maybe I'll get back on track.

Maybe....

At lunch today I managed to catch a glimpse of an awesome commercial that struck a chord with me. Was it funny? Yes. Was it split-my-sides funny? Nope, but I still feel like I have to share this gem:

Courtesy of Gizmodo comes the revelation that out of all the movies I've ever seen, nothing will compare to the glory that is, or more precisely, will be, Kung Fury.

I've always been a big fan of B-Movies, but there is a fine line to walk when you making a B-Movie, especially when you know you are making a "bad" movie. I've seen plenty of movies that are awesome because they don't know they are bad and but rarer is the "good" B-Movie that is good because the people making the film knew it was bad. It is all-too rare for a cognizant group of folks to put out a bad movie worth watching.

I think the folks over at Laser Unicorn know what they are doing and are going to do a delightfully terrible job doing it. Don't take my word for it, see for yourself:

This Cool/Creepy Video Features My Buddy's Daughter!

A couple of weeks ago a buddy of mine was posting some odd pics of his daughter online. He probably explained a few things that I somehow either didn't see or just glossed over, so I just ended up assuming she was in some dance class rehearsing for a Christmas show.

New flash for those of you who don't know me all that well....I generally don't care about your kid's clumsy dance recitals. They might be fun and exciting to you and I don't begrudge you or your spawn's opportunity to have fun in dance, but please spare me from having to suffer from watching your precious snowflake's odd gyrations and off-key butchering of beloved Christmas songs....or worse yet, politically correct holiday offerings.

Ok, confession time here.....in general the pictures and videos of your kids don't really bother me unless you are just an ass pushing the pics and videos on me. That is actually what bugs the hell out me, not the kids, but the parents. Most every kid that I've seen raised as a special snowflake, yes...I'm using that as a derogatory term, has ended up being just a smaller-sized a-hole spawn that you would expect. Sometimes I think you should have to get permission to breed.

I'm also quite fortunate that the parents in my social circles are not those kinds of parents and in most cases their kids are actually pretty cool because they are just juvenile versions of themselves and not their parents. Zari is one of these kids.

I've known Zari since she was a baby and we've flown to Tennessee to visit her family and she's flown out here to visit with us. My wife and I have even managed a bona fide vacation to the "happiest place on earth" with her and her parents. She's special alright, and NOT in the snowflake kind of way.

Batkid Saves the Day!

All I can say is I wish that I had the means to go to SF and simply watch this awesome spectacle unfold.

I had seen the original blog post about the "Bat Kid" and his wish for/from the Make a Wish Foundation. To see an entire community come together to make this happen.....wow.

Now if we could just get more people on the Bone Marrow Registry then maybe more kids could get their parent's wish fulfilled......

Cool "New" Zombie Game Promo

Imagine my surprise when the folks over at iO9 pointed me to a Machinima video of EPIC proportions.

I have quite a few zombie video games, or games with zombies in them. I've enjoyed them all, but for some reason I just didn't really get into Dead Island. I might have to give it another go, but for now I'm content with what I have, especially since the new COD game is coming out.

Anyway, this video is a shot-for-shot remake of the original "reverse" Dead Island promo. It is a cool fan-made effort.

Funny Homage to a Stupid Meme Song

I fondly remember...way back in the day...that staying up "late" on a Saturday night was measured by if you managed to watch Saturday Night Live. My curfew in High School was before the ending of SNL, so getting to watch the whole show was really being up late.

Of course, like so many things, it seems that the SNL of my youth was better than it is now, but I think that is just as much on me as it is on them.

One thing I've always enjoyed were the SNL shorts. These filmed bits started creeping into the "live" show decades ago. I fondly remember Mr. Bill at a time when kids my age would say, "Mr. Who?" Of course these same kids didn't have a clue who Dr. Who was, but that is a different issue for a different post.

I didn't stay up to watch SNL....I'm getting too old, it isn't "live" in my time zone anyway, and it's unfair to my wife who has to get up early AM to go to work. Luckily for me NBC likes to put the shorts online so I can see some/all of the show later.

Cool Protest Video

To a certain extent I'm not a huge fan of protests & I'm not even sure I've ever taken place in one, but I have been tempted.

You see, the thing is I've been around far too many protests, starting back when I first went to college. If you've ever seen PCU, that movie hit kind of close to home for me. I've seen too many stupid protesters, psuedo-intellectuals, and just plain old (putting on my Red Forman pants here) dumbasses.

Awesome YouTube Commercial

It has been forever since I've laughed so hard at a commercial, which is surprising only because I'm inundated with commercials these days.

Usually I just skip by the commercials on places like YouTube, but this commercial......even at a couple of minutes, made me laugh so hard in such a juvenile way that I had to find it online and share it with all of my male friends. Most of my female friends may actually be interested in this product, but would never enjoy this video to the extent that my 12 year-old self does.

Today is my 11th Wedding Anniversary and I'm not sorry to report I'm pretty much phoning this entry in today....

What Should We Buy?

BFS Working on a New Album

I think I'm always one of the last to know about these things, but in case that isn't true I figured I'd let my 12 readers know that one of my favorite bands, Bowling For Soup, is putting together a new record.

They are self-publishing this record, using Pledge Music to get the funds together. This seems to be quite the thing to do these days...self publish that is....because I'm guessing that the label companies these days simply aren't adding enough value for what they take off the top from the bands.

My first indication that this was happening was back in 1998 when I discovered an artist I liked in Austin TX. Before trying to self-publish her music this artist worked for a record label. The fact that she was going off on her own pointed out some problems....to me at least.

Anyway, this is a post about BFS, so I'll get back to it. For $10 you get a digital download of the record when it is released. For $15 you get the digital download, a physical CD, and another download of an exclusive acoustic album. Figuring $10 for a digital download and $15 for a CD is what I'd pay anyway, this seems like a good deal.

The fact that BFS is donating 5% to a artist relief-fund and kicking in the extra acoustic music tells me that the record labels have to be taking in a lot off of artists...whoops, I went there again.

We Went to See Red 2 Today

Today Carolyn and I went to go see Red 2. We both enjoyed the first one and neither of us had really seen anything regarding this second one.

Now to be fair, neither of us watches regular TV and we don't get the local paper, but still....to have a comic-based movie come out an to NOT have heard anything.....just doesn't seem right.

Of course as soon as the movie rolls you find out it is a DC property, so maybe it really wasn't advertised worth a crap. This is a shame because outside of some of the last few Batman movies DC hasn't done well with regard to comic book movies. When they do a good job, like they did with Red (and I dare say Red 2), they should get off their duff and let everyone know.

Aside from one specific detail, which I shall not divulge, I found most of the movie quite unpredictable. I laughed more than I expected and there were quite a few little tongue-in-cheek surprises that were tie-ins from the 1st movie.

Another surprise is to look up the movie online and see that Rotten Tomatoes has given it a 42%, which is odd because the audience gave it a 72%. I think the 72% rating is much more appropriate.


In short, if you liked Red you should enjoy Red 2.

Two Geeky Video Game Shorts

Today was a rich video-game video day thanks to the fine folks at Kotaku.

They featured two videos today, one was a cool fan-film making fun of the venerable Resident Evil franchise. It basically makes fun of some of the absurdity of the video games, but I think it is largely still approachable for those that haven't played any of the games.

The other is actually part of a series (ok, episode two of a two-part series) that looks like it could have been made by the creators of Portal. It it really well done, but if you aren't familiar with the game this short is probably lost on you. The animation is good though. I'll post the vid for the 1st episode instead of the one released today.

Geekgasm: Spyfall

There are some pretty decent fan-films floating about, but few of them are as well polished as Spyfall.

It has been quite a while since I've played Team Fortress 2, but after watching this I'd like to fire up the 'ol Xbox.

I would pay to see the movie this trailer is for.....

Fallout: Nuka Break-Red Star

Yesterday I got pointed to a Machima Prime video that I didn't have the time to watch....until just this morning.

This "fan" video is a bit lengthy at 25 minutes, but it barely seems like a fan film, which makes every minute worthwhile.

Fallout: Nuka Break-Red Star is much more than a labor of love. Fallout: New Vegas has been out for almost three years. It is one of the handful of AAA games that I've completed 100% of the achievements on. In the case of New Vegas that was a tough fight for me.

If you enjoyed the game I think you'll enjoy this video.
