The problem is that they often don't really say much about the individual. Sure I can present a list of 100 things I've done or brag that I can recall a few more facts about some inane matter, but does that actually say much of anything about me?
I thought I'd come up with my own set of 10 open questions that might give you an insight about me. Of course this might completely backfire, but here goes:
1) What is the first movie you recall watching, and why is that movie stuck in your memory?
The first movie I recall watching is Orca. I know that I saw Star Wars sometime before then, but I don't remember it. My earliest memory of seeing Star Wars was when it came around again a year or two later. I remember seeing Orca at a drive-in movie theater, I think it was in Wyoming. I can still picture seeing on the hug screen that female Killer Whale being strung up by its tail and having its fetus spilled out onto the deck. That was simply horrifying for a six year old to see.
2) What is the last movie you watch and why?
I had to double-check my Netflix activity to be sure, but it was The American President. I've seen it many ties before and I wanted to have the TV on while I was working on another project. It is billed as a comedy-drama, which I don't get. I like it because the dialogue is good and it is one of the few Presidential movies that seems realistic AND makes the President seem normal. I think this is the only Annette Bening movie I've ever liked.
3) Have you ever walked out of a movie? If so, what was the movie and why?
When I went to Ft. Walton Beach for some advanced training one of my classmates and I went to go see Showgirls. I figured what the hell, we get to see Elizabeth Berkley naked in this, probably along with Gina Gershon. I'll admit it, I went to see Jesse naked....I'm man enough to admit this. I feel it is important to note that 1995 was during my B movie phase. I loved bad movies, enough that I was able to accurately predict when the obligatory shower scene was going to come up. We weren't a third of the way through this steamer when I turned to the other guy and said, "If it wasn't for the fact that you are depending on my for your ride, I'd have left already." He replied that he wanted to leave too, so we got the hell out of there. I still haven't seen that movie and I'm ok with that.
4) When was the last time you were surprised by a movie?
Super was the last movie to surprise me. That whole movie was filled with WTF moments. I almost said Serenity because we all knew Joss Whedon only filmed that one movie and when Wash died it was clear that everything was on the table and it was anyone guess who it would end.
5) What is your favorite movie format?
I realize this is a bit of an open question, but I prefer widescreen on a regular DVD. I have a couple Blu-Ray players and a good sound system as well as a HDTV, but I also have a widescreen laptop and regular DVDs can be played just about anywhere and I can more easily copy the movie to watch on my ipod/iphone/ipad again later. Oh and color....I prefer color movies, even though there are great black and white films out there to be enjoyed.
6) What movie have you owned the most copies of?
Without a doubt I would have to say Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I've had multiple copies on VHS. I had it on laser disc and on DVD. It looks like I'll have to buy yet another copy since mine appears to be missing. After that I'd say Pump up the Volume because I've had it on VHS (PAL format), on some weird computer disk format from the mid 90's, and on DVD.
7) Star Trek or Star Wars?
Definitely Star Wars. The Star Trek movies were generally "meh". If we add in the TV shows then definitely Star Trek, but since this is about movies, Star Wars all the way. All bets are off if they continue making kick-ass new Star Trek movies though. I'm still waiting for a movie that explains that the Llia-Decker hybrid created at the end of Star Trek: The Motion Picture ends up being the Borg from the later Star Trek universe.
8) Tell us about a movie that you own which you find surprising to have in your collection.
I'm surprised to have Before Sunset in my collection. I really enjoyed Before Sunrise when it came out, but I had that movie before I started dating again (long story) and I doubt I've seen it in a decade. I've never even taken Before Sunset out of the shrinkwrap, so who knows if i'll ever watch it. Should I re-watch the first movie before plunging into the second?
9) What is your favorite genre?
I enjoy many different genres, but I'd have to say without a doubt I prefer comedies. No matter what mood I'm in, I can watch a comedy. You need to be in the right place mentally to watch some movies, but a good comedy always seems to go with the moment.
10) You have to choose one movie you get to watch on a long trip, what movie do you choose?
That is a very difficult decision. Ideally it has to be a comedy with great dialogue. I can think of a few movies that fit that description: Clerks & Old School immediately come to mind. A good soundtrack helps, which adds Grosse Pointe Blank. In the end though, I have to go with silly English keniggets and choose Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Special Note: I'm currently in the hospital having my bone marrow harvested. Instead of simply skipping some posts or trying to blog the day before, during, or after having several hundred long needles jabbed in my hip, I figured I'd just have Blogger post some entries on a schedule.
Although I am undergoing surgery, I'm well aware that I'm on the easy side of this transplant. If you could say a prayer for the recipient of my marrow, a woman with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I'd be appreciative. If you decided to get yourself on the National Marrow Donor Program, I'd be freaking ecstatic.
