William Shatner likes Fried Turkey

William Shatner talks turkey...deep fried turkey
As Turkey day approaches my thoughts tend to drift towards food.  If you've been reading my blog at all you've probably noticed a few more food-related posts than normal.  Since my blog doesn't really have a theme, I tend to post what is on my mind, or what I think is worth getting "out there".  Those tow aren't always the same thing.

You probably could care less about some kick-ass, cheap, hippy-friendly laundry detergent that I went off on in my last post.

You probably could not care about deep-fried turkey, especially if you are vegetarian (like one of my 12 readers).  You should care about basic food safety because it could prevent a disaster.  Cooking a turkey improperly in the oven usually means a ruined bird or at worst some food poisoning.  That sucks, but it happens.  Cooking a fried turkey improperly could mean a nasty, fiery death and having your home burnt down.  Heck with fire, it could mean your neighbor's house gets burned as well.  How many dishes can possibly ruin your neighbors as well?

Every year just in here in Boise we get some idiot that sets fire to his home or garage trying to fry a turkey.  I for one am not a fan of making firemen work on the holidays, but maybe I'm just old-fashioned that way.  Normally my belief in Darwinism wins out, but I get sentimental during the holidays.

Enter State Farm and William Shatner.  They've put together a couple of great videos regarding Fried Turkey safety.  I found them enjoyable to watch and educational.  Hopefully you, or your dumb-assed neighbor planning on frying a bird on the balcony below you, will do so as well.
