The last couple of years my wife and I have resumed a Christmas tradition from my youth: attending a Christmas Day movie. We usually go to the in-laws for a Christmas Eve dinner followed by presents and then Christmas Day is all to ourselves. We have a couple that are friends of ours and they either don't have local family or are estranged from their family. We go to the movies with them.
Last year was Tangled and this year was to be either The Muppets movie or Sherlock Holmes. Since I wasn't really a fan of the first movie I was leaning towards the Muppets. 75% of the group preferred Sherlock, so that's what we saw.
I'm happy to report that I really liked this movie and I can recommend it to anyone. Some of the "stuff" I didn't care for from the first movie was toned down a hair. We got to see Professor Moriarty prominently in this film and the big theme of the movie was played out on a small and large scale. I'm NOT going to post any spoilers, so you can enjoy all this and discover what I'm talking about on your own.
I will say that I was totally surprised by the movie at a certain point. I don't want to say how, where, or why because that would be a spoiler, but I like it when a movie can catch me by surprise.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows gets two thumbs up from me.
