Reprieve for Rex

Sometimes it feels that there is not enough good news in the world.

Despite the grey day and attempts to snow, I've been totally uplifted about the news that a Marine EOD technician, who was wounded in the line of duty along with her service dog, is getting to "rescue" her dog from being euthanized.

The dog, Rex, lost his sense of smell due to a combat injury.

Unlike police dogs, it seems that military dogs are seen by the brass more in terms of equipment instead of four-legged personnel.

This is a shame.  I'm sorry, but an animal that serves in an official capacity alongside of human handlers, exposed to the same risks....or more likely worse risks, should have some measure of respectful disposition when they are injured or no longer able to serve.
